Mary D'Angelo

MARY PAT D'ANGELO

Artistic Director
A popular, talented and energetic teacher, Mary Pat has taught at the Syracuse School of Dance since 1977. In addition to numerous performances in musicals for Salt City Playhouse and Syracuse Musical Theatre, she has choreographed for the "Festival of Nations" and Jamesville-DeWitt High School; was the creator and director of the Dance Workshop Ensemble; and has participated in the Baldwinsville School District "Arts in School" program. Mary Pat also choreographs for ice skaters and has been part of the Litz Team Skating Seminars held locally and at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. A long-time student of Lorraine Havercroft and Gus Giordano (Chicago), Mary Pat has also studied at Le Ballet Jazz, Montreal, and Alvin Ailey, New York City. She will teach Jazz and Ballet, and serve as Artistic Director of the Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company.


Patty Brundage

PATTY BRUNDAGE

Administrative Director
Patty received her BA degree in Elementary Education while studying dance at Potsdam State College, and completed her graduate studies at Syracuse University. She has studied with Lorraine Havercroft locally; Alvin Ailey, New York City, and the New York State Ballet Association Teacher Training in Cecchetti Method, as well as Pointe Repertoire, Children's Training and Jazz. Patty has taught Ballet, Pointe and Jazz since 1978 and has been the director of the Syracuse School of Dance since 1983. She is a principal dancer and choreographer for the Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company and has performed and choreographed for local theatre groups including Syracuse Opera, The Talent Co., Salt City Playhouse, Clay Town Players and Camillus Musicals. She will be teaching Ballet.



Candy

CANDY ELISA COSTA AGUILERA

Candy Elisa Costa Aguilera graduated as a professional ballerina and teacher at the Professional School in Camaguey, Cuba. She held the rank of First Ballerina in the Santiago Ballet Company, where she danced and worked for 10 years. Candy spent one year at the National Ballet of Cuba, where she performed the role of The Queen of Willis in Gisell as well as dancing in many contemporary ballets. She was preparing for her evaluation as First Ballerina with the National Cuban Dancers when she moved to United States in 2009. She has since taught ballet in the Syracuse area and performed in Syracuse Opera's production of Frida Khalo dancing the role of Frida. We are delighted to add Candy to our faculty teaching upper level ballet classes.


LOUISE BOVA

Louise has taught at the Syracuse School of Dance for many years and is a member of the Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company. She also studied Ballet and Jazz at the New York State Ballet Association where she studied Ballet with Trinette Singleton (Joffrey Ballet), Glenn Gilmour (National Ballet of Canada), and Jazz with Eva VonGencsy (Les Grandes Ballets Canadiens). She will teach Ballet, Jazz and Modern.

LAURIE DEYO

Laurie returns to the Syracuse School of Dance this year and will teach Modern. She has taught, choreographed, and performed with the School and the Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company since 1984. She was dance faculty with Syracuse University for 15 years and has a Master's in Dance and Dance Education from NYU.

TRISCIA DAVIS


Tricia graduated from University at Buffalo with a Bachelors in Arts Degree in Dance in 2008.  Her coursework included teaching methods in dance; Kinesiology for dancers; creative movement; and dance history.  She has done dance residencies in ballet, modern, jazz and hip hop with: Elisa Monte (NYC), Leher Dance (Buffalo), Rennie Harris (Hip Hop) Master Class Ronald K. Brown Evidence Dance Company (NYC), Gus Giordano Jazz Dance (Chicago). Chen Dance Center (NYC).  She was a performer/choreographer Digital Dance Poetry Project and has taught tap, hip hop, jazz, modern and ballet in central New York since 2008.

BARBARA LENEVE


Barbara has studied in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, ballroom, flamenco, hip hop, and  musical theater locally since she was a child  as well as studying various schools such as  Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham, Rennie Harris and Garth Fagen..  She was a Dance major at SUNY Brockport and received her Undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and Dance as well as her Masters of Science at Syracuse University where she was the Dance Graduate Assistant. She has taught performed and choreographed locally and is currently teaching in the Dance Minor at Syracuse University.  She recently completed all of the requirements for the New York State Teaching Certification in Dance Education

BRANDON JONES

Brandon Jones has been dancing and studying Hip Hop, Musical Theater and Jazz for the past 11 years.  He has choreographed and taught for the Ballet and Dance Center, Dance Theater of Syracuse, and Dominique’s Dance Creations, Say Yes to Education, Peaceful Resolution and Lemoyne Upward Bound Summer program. 

HELEN MOORE

Helen received her Masters Degree in Education from Syracuse University. She has studied dance all her life including Ballet Arts, New York School of Ballet and S.T.E.P.S. and locally. She dances with and has choreographed for the Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company. Helen continues a long teaching affiliation with the School and will be teaching Ballet.

CAITLIN O'HARA

Caitlin studied dance and choreographed in Syracuse under the guidance of Kathleen Rathbun and Caroline Brackett. She graduated cum laude with a BFA in dance performance from Adelphi University in 2009. She has performed works by Martha Graham, Dahlia Corella, Jennifer Muller and Marius Petipa as well as ballets including Swan Lake, Dracula, The Sleeping Beauty” and “The Nutcracker.” Since returning to Syracuse she has taught dance at Syracuse Children's Theater and Redhouse Theater and has performed and choreographed for Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company. She will be teaching Ballet at SSD

LISA POWELL

Lisa's dance training includes the Royal Academy of Dance Method, Dance Educators of America, the Broadway Dance Company and Steps of New York City. She has taught in the Syracuse area since 1995 and will be teaching Ballet this year.

ROY SHIPMAN

Roy studied with Walt Medicis Dance Association where he taught Ballroom, Latin and Swing Dance for five years. He also taught and perfomed for four years with the Guzman Dance Studio. Roy will be teaching Latin and Swing Dance this year.

BECKY RICHARDSON

Becky graduated from James Madison University, where she trained and performed with the Contemporary Dance Ensemble, focusing the majority of her training in modern dance. While in Virginia she danced with several community theater companies, choreographed for and taught at Centreville Dance Academy, and became a certified Pilates instructor. Since moving to Syracuse, she choreographs for and teaches dance and Pilates at Syracuse University and several local studios, and continues to perform with the Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company and with Take Away Dance (in New York City).

SARAH JEAN TADDEO

Sarah has studied ballet and pointe at the Syracuse School of Dance and ballet, jazz, modern, pointe, conditioning, and improvisation at the Light of the World Ballet.  She has also studied at Ballet Magnificat!, a world renowned professional ballet company founded by principal dancer, Kathy Thibodeaux.  She toured nationally to Ohio and Pennsylvania as guest dancers with the Light of the World Ballet Company, as well as accompanying the Company on a two-week missions trip to India. She recently completed her teacher training program with the Company in ballet, pointe, vocabulary, anatomy, and repertoire rehearsal.
